Over the last few years, I joined a few masterminds and while I have done group coaching and hired a coach, the mastermind has led to the biggest impact and change in my life.
So, what exactly is a mastermind?
A mastermind is a group of people who supports, brainstorms, educates and holds each other accountable during a specific time to grow and go towards a goal.
There is room for growth, interaction, and connection.
It’s that bond that happens through the interaction and connection that creates a space for individuals to come together and push themselves forward towards their goal. There is time to acknowledge things that are going well but it is also the perfect time to state when things are not going well.
It’s that bond and connection that allows us to be open to another one’s perspective.
Everything I just mentioned is the reason why I prefer a mastermind over group coaching because members get to share, give feedback and advice.
The other thing I want to point out, a mastermind isn’t about networking. Yes, you will learn what everyone does, but not everyone is a business owner. There is, however, an opportunity to make deeper connections and create joint ventures outside of the mastermind.
Some masterminds have a strict protocol which is excellent so that everyone gets their turn, and I have been in those. But here’s the thing, there are going to be times that not everyone has something too personal to share but they show up because they have something to give.
So, what are the reasons to join a mastermind, some I already touched on briefly?

- You are not alone on your journey (and you shouldn’t be).
- Collaboration so that every member moves forward.
- Extend your own network.
- A new way of learning.
- You do have the opportunity for cross-promotion.
- Room to think bigger.
We all get stuck in fear and self-doubt and I learned that even as an introvert that those masterminds have really asked me to show up.
