Good Morning!! Its Wednesday and we are halfway there!! I hope everyone kills it today!!
For Black History Month I’m doing appreciation for black artists in Metal/Rock/punkToday
I would like to highlight a legend in the Hardcore Punk scene, this man not only was a force to be reckoned with in the scene, he was also a strong political and community activist out of Memphis, TN. I Give you the Late Great, Omar Higgins Of Negro Terror!
This man is and was the embodiment of breaking the barriers in the Punk scene! His lyrics are war cries for all to stand up for who they are and what they represented. Sadly Omar passed away on April 19th, 2019. Please check them out if you haven’t already!!
I leave you with this quote from Omar during an interview that hits directly to the point and more of the reason to why I need to do this!
Rise and Rage Family
“Coming up playing this music, people looked at me funny. They’d say, ‘That’s white-boy music.’ But music doesn’t have a color,” said Higgins. “And it’s not about being an ‘all black’ punk band either. The whole idea is for young African American kids to feel comfortable doing whatever it is they want musically. Negro Terror is about destroying those old ideas.” – Omar Higgins
