Developing habits for better work-life balance can help you manage your flow of the day is not just about getting things done. It could include finding better ways to eat healthier, adding a workout or write every single day.
As a multi-passionate and multipotentialite, finding a work-life balance has perhaps been one of the most challenging activities I needed to figure out. This was true when I was still an employee but became more important when I ventured into being an entrepreneur.
There are so many areas in your lives that could be improved and made easier when new habits are established, but it’s often easier said than done. Some habits are of course easier but how do you start creating a habit for those more challenging ones, like managing your time in ways that help you do all the things you may want to do.
There area few things you can try!
Decide What You Want To Do
This is by far one of the most important steps and one where you need to be as specific as possible. Don’t just say you are going to write more, instead of saying I will write for 30 minutes or I will write 1000 words 5 days a week. Deciding what your new habit will be and committing to when and how youíre going to do it, is half the battle.
Remind Yourself To Get It Done
The first week may be the easiest to get started because you are motivated and excited, but then it dips down and you find yourself having slipped into old habits.
Maybe you hit on writer’s block or you got carried away cleaning the house (hey it could happen!). It’s important to add it to your calendar as a non-negotiable as well as have an alert set on your phone.
Make It Part Of Your Routine Until It Becomes A Habit
Which brings us to the last step. It takes some time before a new behavior becomes a true habit. Until then, a routine will work to your best advantage. Even before the new behavior becomes automatic, a routine will help you get it done without having to spend a lot of willpower or relying on daily reminders.
Make that writing part of your morning routine or after-dinner routine. Find a spot in your day where it makes the most sense for you to build on this habit.
Something that I do during the last week of my month is to plan the month ahead. It helps me decide on the projects I want to tackle, space for client work and of course writing time. I include events such as self-care time and date time and then batch my days together.
By batching I mean, I write most of my social media content in one day and schedule it. I will also work out some blog post topics and spend a day outlining and writing them. This now frees me up to focus on creative activities that I like to fill my days with.
