Have you ever wondered how a vision board can improve your life and business? In 2015 I felt stuck in my life and her business. I just started my coaching business but didn’t really have the life that I had been dreaming about. I took the time to self-care, and to hustle less but my income suffered because I listed way too much to other people.
I also wanted to create more experiences in my personal life. Working from home at the time meant that I woke up, drank my coffee, looked at my computer, scrolled through the socials, and kept up with busy work.
In October 2015, I sat down and wrote out my vision of what I wanted to achieve and the same can be done with a vision board! A vision board is a way of visualizing the life or business of your dreams. They are amazingly effective, and the reason is simple – what the mind sees, it can create!
When you cast a vision for yourself, your subconscious goes to work creating that reality. Plus, a vision board can be used in so many different ways…
Change Your Habits
I wanted to give up smoking. I’d been trying to quit for years but never managed to stop for longer than a few days. And of course, I blamed everything on my lack of willpower and motivation.
So I wrote about it in my vision that I would be fit and healthy, not really sure how it would all work out.
I wrote about how good it would feel to not smell like an ashtray, cough up phlegm and save money, and how could it would feel to have the energy as well as feel good in my body.
I started running every day and within a month I no longer craved a cigarette after a 6-mile run.
Create a Community
But it’s not just for health! Maybe you want to build a community around yourself, you can make a vision board that showcases happy friends doing activities together. You could include photos of women joining social clubs, going dancing, and signing up to volunteer. The images are meant to inspire you to do those exact things and grow your community.
Many people struggle with building strong relationships. In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to feel like you’re constantly connected and yet you’re desperate for intimacy. By creating a vision board, you can consider which types of activities you enjoy so you can seek out others with shared interests.
Get a Degree
Or maybe you want to finish your college degree. Maybe you had to stop and drop out for one reason or another. It’s never too late to go back to school! Create a board with photos of diplomas, graduation caps, and even a letter with the words “financial aid” stamped on it.
Write a Book
I don’t know about you but I always dreamed of writing a book since I was a little girl. Perhaps this is you know, and you really want to pursue your dream of writing. Use a vision board and create one for her writing.
The board can include pictures of a woman daydreaming, a spacious office, a copy of one writer’s schedule, and even a mock press release that mentions you as a debut author with a large publishing house.
Writing a book may sound like a huge undertaking and it can certainly be a process. But with a vision board to guide you, the journey isn’t quite as overwhelming. That’s because you can “see” your success in your mind and with that assurance, obstacles are easier to overcome.
Travel the World
And maybe you want to travel the world. You’ve been planning to go for years but something always seems to get in the way. It will never feel like the right time … but a vision board can help!
Sit down and give some serious thought to what you need to do to make your dream happen. Take photos of yourself doing the activities and put them together on your poster. Include a picture of yourself getting rid of clutter (to remind you to downsize), learning another language (so you can be fluent), and putting money in a piggy bank (to remind you to save up).
You be amazed at what could happen within a year because your visualizations will work for you and you can happily travel the world.
Create More Energy
I used to feel frequently fatigued and had to drag myself through each day. And after a clean bill of health, I knew that I just needed to make some serious changes to my routines.
I again wrote a vision to remind myself of these changes I wanted to make, such as going to bed early, practicing meditation, and not being connected to technology as much as well as some nutrition changes. You could do all of this with images for your vision board.
Often, we think of energy as something we do or don’t have. But energy is what you create by the choices you make. A vision board can help you design habits that create the energy level you crave.
Make Passive Income
Perhaps you want to focus a bit on some passive income in your life so you could worry less about your finances.
Design a vision board that shows a woman building an email list, another woman confidently networking with other entrepreneurs, and a woman creating digital products for sale.
When you find it difficult to block off time for your projects, take a look at your vision board. So you can remember the life you want to create and how amazing it will feel when you have implemented these steps.
Why Are Vision Boards So Darn Effective?
Now that have an idea of what you can use vision boards for and how to create what you want, you might be wondering what it is about vision boards. How is it they make success possible?
While I prefer to write my vision because I believe there’s power in writing, images can do the same thing because many people think in pictures. When you envision your life, think about what you want.
Most people do the opposite and that’s a crucial mistake. They think about how they don’t want to end up alone or they don’t want to go broke. Unfortunately, your mind responds to the picture of you alone or broke and goes to work creating this scenario.
The good news is that you can create the life you do want by feeding your mind a new image. Imagine what you want to happen and begin taking positive steps in the right direction. Envision your life as if you’re already where you want to be.
By training your mind to visualize your success, you’ve taken an important first step toward success. You may not get there tomorrow but one day, you’ll wake up and you’ll be amazed at how beautiful and wonderful your life seems.
And if you are ready to do just that in 2023, you’re invited to my Vision board party on January 14th.
