Somewhere deep down, you want something. You want to figure out your passion. You are trying to decide what career to choose or maybe you just don’t even know where you begin. And joy is one of the things you are seeking.

Often, we need simply need to engage in a small brainstorming activity and figure out what it makes our heart sing.

Let me tell you a story!

When I was 16, I thought that I wanted to be a veterinarian assistant and followed that path but as life would have it,

I encountered a plot twist in my story. I had a baby instead at 17.

For a few years, I was a stay-at-home mom and then I worked odd jobs here and there. I even managed to earn a degree in accounting but none of the work I had done, really made my heart sing.

Instead, I found reasons to not like my jobs to the point of looking for new work or better yet, stay home again with my children. And as much as I love my children, even staying home wasn’t ideal for me. I really didn’t know much of what I wanted and I was in my 30’s.

Find what you love to do and do it

One of the things I did know however is that I loved psychology and I played with the notion of becoming an FBI profiler. I studied on my own time and watched a tremendous amount of shows related to profiling and forensics.

But I also noticed another part of me that wanted to work with foster kids because it’s a life that I knew and can relate to. Once I made the decision to go back to school, it was because my son became ill and well life’s too short and I studied to become a Mental Health Counselor.

I’ve since then graduated and worked successfully as a counselor with families at risk. One of the things I learned is that it is HARD work but it is rewarding work, in addition, I was doing something good in this world. It opened my path to what really makes my heart sing. I thoroughly enjoy helping people reach their goals. It is amazing watching individuals make things happen.

I no longer work as a therapist and instead coach and mentor because I fully believe that in each moment we can create the life we want.
