The Music Corner- All that Remains

I’ve been listening to All that Remains for quite a few years now and the first song that caught my attention is “This Calling“.

I had the pleasure to experience them in concert during the Blue Ridge Rockfest in 2018. And then again last night with Seasons. I’ve also shared one of my favorite songs from Seasons that you can read about here.

But let’s talk about the Song.

As someone who’s been working on healing the wounds of the past, letting go of people that either didn’t support me or in some way were an influence I needed to do without, “The Calling” reminds me of the temptation to fall back into my old ways.

It’s so easy to get lost in the alcohol and allow it to consume your life. It’s so easy to seek attention from all the wrong place to soothe your pain that you would like to remain hidden.

And I don’t think all temptations are bad – there are some that well, we could really do without – when we are able to recognize that it pulls us into a direction that we perhaps should stay clear from.

It can be incredibly hard to resist the temptation, that darkness that sits deep within and we know do not serve us – and “The Calling” is sitting in the back of your mind whispering how good it would feel to answer it. It doesn’t recognize the part where it will catapult us into the spiral of chaos.

It is a constant battle to not give into the calling, the darkness and stay in what we could call the light, the good – and at times its painful.
