Breathing deep to feel emotion

Breathing deep to feel emotion
Let the flood gates open
The pain, the sorrow
Let it free
Take a deep breath for your releaseWe stop breathing during crisis and trauma

We stop breathing during crisis and trauma
So many years of this dilemma
Feel your breath go down to your belly
oh the places you can go

Your breath so powerful moves you to tears
Your heart once dark, shining so fierce
Breathe once taken and now returned
Open your heart – emotions to learn
Breath a vital thing, so important
Not just for survival but to be alive

I wrote this during a journal exercise within 5 minutes. I didn’t realize how important breathing really is! I closed my eyes, placed my hands on my belly and followed the presenter each guided word. My body reacted to this simple act of breathing but I was letting go of all the things I had held on for so long. Tears were streaming down my face during this process – how amazing and free I felt and being able to write so openly about it after the process.

The reality is that when we go through crisis or trauma, we hold our breath and when it is over, we simply forget how to breathe again. And there’s a form of rebellion that happens when we remember and experience expansion and so many realization flooding your way through breathing deep to feel emotion

We often engage in only shallow breathing into our chest and lungs for survival, it is what we must do. But how often do you breathe so deeply to feel? To open yourself up and release all the negativity?

So close your eyes, place your hand on your belly and take a deep breath. Feel that belly rise and fall with each breath. Notice what you are feeling and know that you are giving your body the necessary oxygen that it needs to survive. Make it a daily ritual once or twice a day to really take a breath to nourish your body, to energize your body and to release your emotion.

Happy Breathing!
