What is the number one killer of dreams?

Self-Doubt is the number one killer of dreams!

Vision gets clouded by the thoughts and beliefs you hold over our own abilities.

You watch others get ahead of the game and wonder what their secret is. Wondering what makes them so special?

Nothing!

You have amazing abilities to do exactly what it is you want to do!

You are perfect the way you are!

“Petra, that’s not true because I can’t figure out how to move forward?”

There’s no such thing as perfect and no other person is extra special. It’s an illusion you make up to tell yourself giving you the excuses of why you can’t do what you want to do! But look at where you are right now, if you were so incapable of doing you, then you wouldn’t be here!

Every single person has experienced self-doubt and has gotten frustrated for not being able to move forward. Negative thoughts and feelings can help you challenge ourselves and you can decide to fuel the negativity, or you can choose to ask yourself what can I learn from this.

And then you can take a moment and look at all the positive things in your life and be amazed how good it really is.

When you are filled with self-doubt it can very much feel like you don’t have control, but the truth is we have a choice. You can decide to whine and complain or you can start taking action despite the self-doubt.

Killer of Dreams: “But I’m completely stuck and don’t know what to do next”!

Sorry to burst your bubble you do know what to do but you haven’t taken the time to listen to yourself. Here are a few steps you can take to help you along:

Get clear on your goal

The more specific you are on your goal, the better the visualization and the excitement will come naturally. For instance, maybe you want to sell $XXX in art this months.

Know your why

Write out exactly why you want this goal, be as clear as possible.
I want to earn $XXX because it helps me be financially secure.
The why will be different for everyone and there is no right or wrong answer, only your answer.

Brainstorm all the ways you can achieve this goal

This is helpful in creating action steps because you are writing out what it will take to achieve this goal. Selling art can be tough but you have your goal and you why. You can list them in your online store and then share the link to items and/or your store on social media, your website, with friends. You can go to the farmer’s market or join an event. Ask yourself how can I get people to see my art?

Take Action!

Now that you have brainstormed a list of things you can do for your art to be seen – do those steps. Make time in your schedule for social media work if that’s where you’re going with it. Do your research for local events to set up and sell your art.

Yes, you will still experience self-doubt even after taking all these steps. Revisit them to help you as often as you need. You will hear yourself wanting to quit and say:

Killer of Dreams is saying: “I can’t do this”.

What if you sat down and questioned that belief? Reframe the situation by asking yourself what is not working and then find new ways to make it work!

You can also get yourself some support. A friend, mentor or a coach are great ways to gain perspective on your current situation and to where you want to go!

Go have some fun! Distract yourself with the things that make you feel good. Doing fun activities helps elevate our mood and will bring new ideas and inspiration to you with ease.

It’s totally okay to get frustrated with the doubts and not knowing what to do, but allow yourself to use it in a way that catapults you forward and not stuck so you will never achieve your dream.
