Interview with Marci from Krafty Max Originals

This is another one from the history files from when I ran the magazine “The Art of Handmade”. I still follow Marci on your ventures in beading and love how she has turned Krafty Max Originals into really something amazing. Blogging can feel overwhelming but it’s easy to see how everyone can get started.

Please tell us about yourself!

I am a lifetime beader. I started beading and doing beaded macramé with my mom at about age 4! My mother has photos of me giving away friendship bracelets in Kindergarten. Although I love to crochet, knit, scrapbook and scrap book I have always come back to beads. When my son was born about 6 years ago my hubby and I decided that I would stay home and take care of him. I quickly found out that I was not a ‘sit at home’ type of person. The beads and creations just started flowing and Krafty Max Originals was started. And now, over 35 years after I started I am still doing something I love!

Please tell me about your blog.

My blog started as a self-promotional site, however I quickly found out that I LOVE showing off other people’s work more! I have designed my blog to have the most basic and simple information on it.

How long have you been blogging?

I started my blog on March 18th, 2009.

How did you get started?

I was inspired by all the talk of BLOGS and how they were the ‘thing of the future’. Basically I just went to Blogger.com and the rest is history!

Who does your blog appeal to?

Just about everyone! Because I do features of all different types of art mediums and all different types of artwork my reader base is rather diverse. Most of the people I feature also become followers too!

What direction do you see your blog going in the future?

I hope that it continues just about the way it is! I really love doing these features and hope that my readers continue to supportme.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?

The time. It takes so much time to find an artist – that fits into the theme of my day, research that artist and then to put it all into words. I know that sometimes my features are short; however, I read all I can find about that artist before I feature them. I look at all their sites, what they represent and what they are doing with their art. This makes me sure that I am featuring the right artist each time!

What do you love about blogging?

Meeting all the new artists that I have featured. What you don’t see on the blog is the interaction that I get from the artist after the feature. Very rarely do I feature someone that I have contacted first. I do the feature, and then tell them about it. Most of them are not only grateful but find that I have seen them in a different light than they see themselves. Most all of them are so very humble. I have developed a great friendship with MANY of my featured artists.

Do you have a blogging pet peeve?

The NON followers and the NON commenters. People do not understand that not only do many of us track who and how many people follow us, but for us it is our way of knowing if we are doing a good job. For us our ‘tip’ is a comment or a follow. There are so many out there that faithfully read my blog (or others blogs) but they do NOT comment or follow.

Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway?

Just watch my blog for info on WHERE/ WHEN/HOW you can win something of mine. I usually also post my updates on my Fan Page.
